What Is Resource Management?
Resource Management (RM) helps you plan work, manage team capacity, and track progress against project budgets — all in one place. It combines budgets, allocations, capacity, and worked time to provide both planning tools (to set expectations) and monitoring tools (to measure results). Resource Management also supports filtering by Project and Person custom fields, allowing you to segment the grid using attributes configured in Company Preferences.
Resource Management is a suite of tools that lets you:
- Define monthly budgets for projects
- Allocate hours across employees to balance workloads
- View and adjust capacity over multiple months
- Track progress through the grid, dashboard, and reports
Example: A project manager sets a monthly budget for a client project, allocates hours to the team, and then compares actuals against plan to stay on target.
ℹ️ Screen Size Requirement: For best results, use Resource Management on a screen with at least 1366×768 resolution. Smaller screens may limit visibility and usability.
How Resource Management Works
- Budgets: Set monthly budgets at the project level.
- Allocations: Assign hours to people for each project, month by month.
- Capacity: See who is over‑ or under‑allocated based on availability and billing goals.
- Monitoring: Use dashboards and reports to compare allocations with worked time and budgets.
Think of this as a cycle: Budget → Allocate against Capacity → Monitoring
What You Can Do with Resource Management
- Balance workloads: Ensure people are not over‑ or under‑allocated.
- Plan ahead: Use Capacity View to see allocation trends over multiple months.
- Refine over time: Update allocations as projects evolve.
- Protect profitability: Compare budgets against billable allocations and actuals.
These tools are flexible — you can adjust budgets and allocations at any time as projects change.
