The Time Entry Controls section determines what employees can see and select when entering time: which Projects appear, which Tasks are available per selection, and which Leave Types are allowed. Use these controls to keep time entry clean, compliant, and aligned with your billing/payroll rules.
Summary: Choose visibility rules for Projects, Tasks, and Leave Types. Start simple, then tighten as your organization needs more guardrails. If people can’t find an item at time entry, the setting in this section is usually the reason.
Availability: Time Entry Controls are available on Team plans and above (Team, Premier, Enterprise). Applies to web time entry.
Where to find it: Company > Preferences > Time Entry Controls (section).

Overview & “Non-Allocated” option
Time Entry Controls apply to the web time entry experience and influence what appears in Day View, Week View, and Timesheet View.
-
Include “Non-Allocated” in project list: Adds a Non-Allocated option to the project picker. Useful when logging time that isn’t tied to a specific project allocation.
When enabled, users will see an “-unspecified-” Client with a Non-Allocated Project option in the project list.
If you don’t want users to see this option, deselect Include “Non-Allocated” in project list and click Save.
Project Controls
Decide who can see which Projects when entering time. Choose the scope that fits your structure:
-
None - Everyone can see all active projects. Best for small teams or simple coding. When no Project Controls are set, users can choose which projects are visible on the Time Entry page from the My Projects tab.
-
Moderate - Visibility by Division. People see projects available to their division(s). A good balance of control and maintenance.
-
Maximum - Visibility on a person-by-person basis. Most restrictive; use when projects are highly segmented or confidential.

Task Controls
Choose how Tasks are filtered during time entry:
-
None - Everyone can see all active tasks. When no Task Controls are set, users can choose which tasks are visible on the Time Entry page from the Options menu.
-
Client/Project - The task list is filtered by the selected Client/Project. Use this to prevent miscoding and keep lists short and relevant.
Related: Task Controls & Availability (configure task availability per client/project).
Leave Type Controls
Control which Leave Types (e.g., Vacation, Sick) a person can select:
- None - All people have access to all active leave types.
-
Employment Type - Leave access is based on each person’s Employment Type. Use this when policies differ across full-time, part-time, temporary, etc.
You’ll be prompted to resolve any pending time off requests before enabling Leave Type restrictions.

Hide Quick Day / Quick Week
The Hide Quick Day / Quick Week setting allows administrators to remove the Quick Day and Quick Week actions from Time Entry. This provides greater control over how time is entered and can help enforce more structured logging workflows across the account.
Scope: This is an account-level setting and applies to all users. There are no role-based exceptions.
To enable or disable this option:
- Navigate to Company > Preferences.
- Under the Time Entry Controls section, locate the checkbox labeled Hide Quick Day / Quick Week within Time Entry.
- Check or uncheck the box, then click Save.
When the checkbox is checked:
- The Quick Week action is hidden in Week View.
- The Quick Day action is hidden in Day View.
When the checkbox is unchecked:
- Quick Day and Quick Week are visible.
- Both actions function normally.
Default behavior:
- The setting is unchecked for all existing accounts.
- The setting is unchecked for all new accounts.
Troubleshooting & tips
- “I can’t find my Project.” Check Project Controls. If using Moderate, confirm the person’s Division. If using Maximum, confirm the project is assigned to the person.
- “Tasks aren’t showing.” If Client/Project filtering is enabled, confirm the task is available for that client or project.
- “Leave Type is missing.” If using Employment Type restrictions, make sure the person’s employment type is set correctly and the leave type is allowed for that type.
- Keep lists short. Use Client/Project task filtering and tighter project controls to reduce miscoding and speed up entry.
- After changes: Spot-check a few people in Day View and Week View, and confirm the new visibility behaves as expected. If you use Approvals, verify the flow in Timesheet View.
