The General Information section sets company-wide basics: your Company Name, global Date Setting, default Currency, whether to Enable Time Billing Features, whether to Enable Project Estimation Features, your Payroll & Accounting Applications, and any company-level Custom Fields. These choices affect how information displays and which fields, reports, and exports are available throughout ClickTime.
Summary: Update your company’s display name, pick a global date format, set a default currency, and decide if billing and project estimation features are on. You can also note your payroll or accounting systems (and enable QuickBooks integrations) and add company-level custom fields for tracking extra info.
Where to find it: Company > Preferences > General Information (section).

Company Name
This is the name that identifies your organization in ClickTime. You can update it at any time.
- Edit in place: Type the new name and save. Changes apply after saving.
- Who sees it: The updated name appears across the application wherever your company name is referenced.
Tip: If you are rebranding, update Company Name here, then review Customization > Logo so your branding matches.
Date Setting
Choose how dates are displayed and entered across your ClickTime site. This applies globally to all dates.
- Available formats: month/day/year or day/month/year.
- Where it applies: People Start/End Dates, Project Start/End Dates, time entry and timesheets, filters, and reports.
Tip: Pick the format your teams expect. Changing this setting updates how dates display and are entered throughout the site.
Currency
Set your organization’s default currency. ClickTime offers a large list of options — choose the one that best fits your organization’s needs.
- Scope: The selected currency is used for currency fields and labels throughout ClickTime.
- Behavior: This sets the currency label; it does not convert historical amounts.
- Best practice: Align this with your primary accounting or payroll currency for consistency in reports and exports.
Enable Time Billing Features
Control whether ClickTime’s billing rates and billable/non-billable fields are used for time entries.
- When enabled: Billing rate fields and billable status appear in the app, and rate information flows into reports and exports.
- When disabled: All billing rate and billable/non-billable information is hidden; no billing rate information is included in reports or exports; existing billing rate settings are reset to system default values.
Important: If your company creates estimates using amount billed, time billing features cannot be disabled. Please contact ClickTime Support if you need help.
Not sure whether to enable billing? If you analyze billable vs non-billable time or invoice from ClickTime data, keep this enabled.
Enable Project Estimation Features
Choose whether to use ClickTime’s project estimation features.
- When enabled: An Estimation section appears in Company > Preferences with additional configuration options (for example, hours or amount-based estimates at the project level).
- When disabled: Estimation features are not displayed in the interface. No estimate information is included in reports or data exports.
Payroll & Accounting Applications
Use these pickers to note which Payroll and Accounting applications your organization uses. This helps align integrations and exports.
- Accounting Application: Selecting QuickBooks enables access to the ClickTime Connector to export time and expenses to QuickBooks. If you use a different system, you can still select it for reference — selection is helpful but not required.
- Payroll Application: Choose the payroll system you use, if any. This is optional but useful for documentation and export alignment.
- QuickBooks payroll note: If you select QuickBooks as your payroll application, you may see an additional Checking Account Name field. This is optional and can be left blank.

Custom Fields (Company)
Custom Fields let you track information that is not part of the standard configuration. Company-level custom fields appear here if your organization has added them (for example, a Company Address or internal codes).
- Where they live: If your organization decides to include company-specific custom fields, they will appear in this section.
- Flexibility: Custom Fields can be attached to many data types in ClickTime (people, projects, time entries, and more) to track extra attributes.
-
Reporting: Custom Field values can be included in reports, queries, and exports.
Tips & safeguards
- Currency changes: Changing default currency updates labels going forward; it doesn’t convert past amounts. Coordinate with Finance between reporting cycles.
- Feature toggles: If you rely on amount billed for estimates, do not disable Time Billing. If you forecast work, keep Project Estimation enabled.
- Consistency: Align Date Setting and Currency with your payroll/accounting systems to avoid reconciliation issues.
Troubleshooting
- “Dates look wrong.” Confirm the Date Setting (month/day/year vs day/month/year) and recheck the form/report.
- “Currency label isn’t what Finance expects.” Update Currency here and re-run the report/export.
- “I can’t see Billing Rates.” Ensure Enable Time Billing Features is turned on; then visit Billing Rates to configure rate structure.
- “Estimation settings are missing.” Turn on Enable Project Estimation Features to reveal the Estimation section.
After you save: Spot‑check one report and a person/project record to confirm date and currency formatting, and verify any enabled features appear as expected.
