Estimation Options control how you budget work and track progress against plan. Depending on your plan, you can use Project Insights (lifetime budgets) and/or Resource Management (monthly budgets & allocations). These options appear after enabling Project Estimation Features in Company > Preferences > General Information.
Summary: Turn on Project Estimation Features, choose the estimation tool that fits your workflow, and set hour- or amount-based budgets. Project Insights tracks lifetime profitability; Resource Management tracks monthly budgets and individual allocations. Billing Rates should be enabled if you budget by amount. Some legacy sites may also see Project Estimation (deprecated) for simple hours/amount tracking.
Where to find it: In Company > Preferences > General Information, enable Project Estimation Features, then open Company > Preferences > Project Estimation.

Which estimation model should I use?
Pick the tool that matches how you plan and report:
- Project Insights: Consistently review the profitability of your projects. ClickTime provides a simple dashboard showing the current costs, billing and margin based on a variety of budget types.
- Resource Management: Month-by-month budgets (hours or amount) with person-level allocations to plan and manage team capacity.
Tip: Not sure? Use Project Insights for fixed-fee or phase-based projects with a single lifetime target. Choose Resource Management when staffing and budgets vary month to month.
Project Insights (lifetime budgets)
Create a single lifetime budget per project (by Hours or Amount). ClickTime tracks actuals as your team logs time and shows progress, remaining, and burn rate.
- Budget basis: Hours or Amount (Amount requires Time Billing Features to be enabled).
- Visibility: Progress appears in project dashboards and related reports.
- Use cases: Fixed-fee contracts, grant totals, or engagements with a single cap.

- Allocations: Assign hours to individuals so they can see expectations and managers can balance workload.
- Use cases: Team capacity planning against monthly budgets
