What counts as Time Entry reporting
Time Entry reporting focuses on worked time — the hours employees enter against Clients, Projects, and Tasks. It does not include Time Off (vacation, sick, and other leave) or Expenses, which have their own reporting hubs.
Typical questions you can answer with Time Entry reporting include:
- How many hours did each person work this week or month?
- How many of those hours were billable vs non-billable?
- How much time was spent on each Client, Project, or Task?
- Which timesheets are submitted, approved, or still missing?
- Are people meeting their expected hours or utilization goals?
For Time Off reports, see Time Off reporting. For Expenses, see Expenses reporting.
Tools for Time Entry reporting
You can report on worked time using several tools in ClickTime. The right option depends on how much flexibility you need and how often you run the report.
Standard Reports (Company > Reports)
Standard Reports are the quickest way to answer common Time Entry questions. On the Company > Reports page, look under the Reporting Essentials tab for report groups such as People, Client, Project, and Task.
Examples of Time Entry-focused reports include:
- Time Entry Detail reports that show individual time entries for a period.
- Time Entry Summary reports that total hours by Person, Client, Project, or Task.
- Billing-focused reports that include billable status, billing rates, or amounts.
For more on using these reports, see Time Entry Reports .
Customizable Data Export (CDE)
Customizable Data Export is the most flexible way to export worked time data. You can:
- Specify a date range and choose whether to include worked time, time off, or both.
- Filter by approval status, billable status, labels, and more.
- Select Simple or Advanced fields, including timesheet status and IDs.
- Export to CSV, Excel, Text, or XML.
For step-by-step examples (including payroll, billing, and audit use cases), see Common use cases for Customizable Data Export .
Report Studio (if enabled)
If your account includes Report Studio, you can build advanced Time Entry reports and dashboards. Typical Time Entry use cases in Report Studio include:
- Interactive utilization dashboards by person, team, or role.
- Billable vs non-billable analysis by client or project.
- Trend charts of hours over time for key clients or departments.

Report Builder (legacy)
If you already have saved Report Builder reports that focus on worked time, you can continue to use them. Report Builder is best for organizations that rely on existing layouts and filters.
For details, see Report Builder.
