The Work Types section of the People Dashboard shows how your team's tracked time, labor costs, and billings are split across Work Types—so you can see not just how many hours were worked, but what kind of work they went to.
Before You Begin
- Work Types must be set up and added to projects.
- You need access to the People Dashboard.
Read the Work Types Chart and Table
Navigation: Company > Dashboard > People Dashboard
The Work Types section appears on the Dashboard tab, below the summary cards. It uses the same filters as the rest of the page: Divisions or People, the people selector, and the date range.
- Pie chart: One slice per Work Type, sized by its share of tracked hours.
- Work Type Distribution table: Ratio (share of hours), Costs, and Billings for each Work Type. Click any column header to sort.
- N/A: Time on projects that didn't have a Work Type on the date the time was entered.
Only Work Types with time in the selected date range appear.
Tip: Past Month shows the previous full calendar month. To see a different period, such as the current month, choose Custom Range.
View Details for a Work Type
- In the Work Type Distribution table, click a Work Type.
- Review the panel that opens on the right. It shows Share of Total, Hours Worked, Labor Costs, and Billings, plus a Projects Worked table listing each project that contributed time.
- Click Close to return to the dashboard.
View a Person's Work Type Breakdown
- Select the Data Grid tab.
- Click a person's name.
- In the panel that opens, the Work Types bar shows how that person's time is split across Work Types, with percentages listed below it.
How Time Is Counted
Each time entry counts toward the Work Type that was in effect on its project on the date of the entry. For example, if a project changes from Discovery to Strategy on October 5, time entered before October 5 counts as Discovery, and time entered on or after October 5 counts as Strategy.
Common Questions
What does N/A mean?
N/A is time entered on projects that didn't have a Work Type on that date. This includes projects with no Work Types and time entered before a project's first Work Type start date.
Why is N/A the largest slice?
N/A is usually large when Work Types are first introduced, since most projects don't have one yet. As more projects are given Work Types, N/A gets smaller.
Why is one of my Work Types missing from the chart?
No time was entered on projects with that Work Type during the selected date range. Try a wider date range.
Why did my numbers change after a project's Work Types were edited?
The dashboard always uses each project's current Work Type timeline, including for past dates. Changing or deleting a Work Type on a project updates how existing time is counted.
